Fiction Story
A fast read with twelve short chapters in which the main character finds himself in a strange spiritual world. He is trying to travel to Charis, the city of light.
On the way he encounters a number of obstacles but ultimately discovers the journey to be impossible due to a great chasm.
In order to cross over he will need some Good News.
Gospel Story
As a lover of both fiction and truth, it is refreshing to see fiction/allegory get it right. The story accurately describes the obstacle that keeps all men from reaching heaven as an impassable chasm.
Enter the woodsmen; that is what this story calls the "Jesus Character." He and he alone makes it possible to cross over into the city of light. Right again. The right problem. The right answer.
More
The Chasm is an abridged adaptation of an earlier book by Randy Alcorn called Edge of Eternity. The point of The Chasm seems to be to focus on allegory and the gospel message, even if that means leaving the story line to suffer.
If you are interested in allegory, The Chasm will be a good, fast, engaging read. If you like stronger fiction in a gospel-centered story, then I would suggest jumping over The Chasm and right on to the Edge of Eternity. (I'm counting that as a clever joke)
Last Thoughts
The Gospel is bigger than the chasm. Amen.
