Main Characters Have Problems. Big Ones!

September's Writing Progress

It rushed by! But I've kept up, and I am on schedule with 2 more weeks of rewriting to go. (in this round) But what I promised to tell you about in this month's update is the Main Character. So here is a little about him and the struggles he faces.

R.A. Graves Next book writing update
"I was a leaf without fear of the stream. Why would I now double down and be a man without fear of God?"

Name: William

Job: Photo Journalist at Explore Shunderland

Wife: Pam. A sincere Christian women and a daily blessing.

Children: William Jr. & Little Gret

From page one, William is a man acquainted with sorrow. He retells for us, his story of a flood that rushed upon him and his family 27 years earlier, a tragedy that ought not to have caught him off guard.

In 1995 William was not paying attention to such things. As a Photo Journalist, he traveled a lot. That year, the snowiest on record, he worked on a project called Shunderland's small towns, across the land and across the seasons.

Needless to say, his work kept him busy, sometimes unnecessarily so, and as a result, he rarely had time for his family, especially on Sundays.

In short, he had no time for God.

Really, it was not his job that kept him from these things- that was just his excuse. The truth is, he lived for his camera and the pursuit of the images it could capture. Work was #1 in his life, practically his religion.

William's BIG problem - While he pursued the “perfect picture,” he came to realize that he himself was being Pursued. By God! A few incidents from that life-changing year stands as monuments in his mind. He should have seen the signs, as clear as a picture. They were there with every click of his camera, and in every conversation with his wife.

William resisted them all, until one Easter weekend while at his cabin with his family, tragedy suddenly rushed upon them.

Now, with memories from that fateful year, William reassesses his pursuit of meaning and fulfillment.

My Goal for October

The rewriting will continue into mid October, then, I plan a short break from the project. This is to sort of reset my mind so that when I read it through again I will be doing so with fresh eyes.

But what to work on in the mean time... hmmm.

Next month I think it's time to just tell you the title already! Don't you?

Thank you for reading! I do not know if this sounds cliche, but it is remarkably meaningful to me, just knowing that you are out there.

Until the next time, remember Christ, the author of salvation and the reader of hearts.
