ROUGH DRAFT UPDATE #4
THE RIP VAN WINKLE BOOK
YOU KNOW THAT FEELING
when you can see the finish line, and at first you get excited because you feel close to the end? Then it seems like it takes forever just to move inches. That's how I've felt all of May.
I am around 75% done with the rough draft of the Rip Van Winkle book. 75% done sounds like a big number to me, but then, when I think of it, so does 25% NOT done. And, this is only the rough draft. There are still a few rounds of rewrites and edits to go through.
Anyway, one word at a time – a handful a day. That is what will get me there. Man, I can hardly wait to get this book finished and into your hands. In the mean time I want to share this excerpt with you. Here's the set up.
Set up: An interchange between brother and sister as they both deal with the return of their long-lost father who disappeared 35 years ago, when they were children. I like this scene for all the background tension it implies.
The Chapter Context
Grace had attempted to used his return as a human interest story to boost her small town mayor's campaign. And it back fired!
Henry carries the baggage of being with his father when he seemingly vanished from the face of the Earth. Here he has a bit of a break-through coming to terms with it all.
